Fostering connection and community with Santander

This momentum has continued even beyond the challenge, with many participants now becoming regular contributors and active members on our engagement efforts, fostering a stronger sense of community and collaboration.

The Challenge:

Like many teams operating in the modern working environments of 2024, Santander’s SanUS Operations team were no different. Looking to build social connection between team members, drive broader engagement and create a more positive culture they needed a catalyst to spark the shift.

The Solution:

Enter GoJoe. And more specifically enter GoJoe’s workplace virtual fitness challenges.

As such, the “Stepping into Summer with Operations’ challenge was formed. A five-week long friendly team battle to move more, score points and top the leaderboards. And, of course, naturally create that connection and engagement between the team as they went.

And along with the challenge, Santander’s team were given access to the wider features of GoJoe Premium to help motivate them even more and ignite some inspiration for the challenge.  From Les Mills physical workout and House of Wellbeing’s mental relaxation to our very own step-by-step Journey programmes, there was plenty to get stuck into.

The Results:

We’re often blown away by the numbers that come out of our challenges. And the team at Santander are no different in stopping us in our tracks.

Headliners:

  • 36 teams
  • 168 participants (they’re all Joes like us now)
  • 3,651 activity sessions logged in 5 weeks
  • 7,513km travelled (That’s just short of two trips down Route 66)
  • 131 days of combined exercise
  • 1,466,053 calories burnt (or 5,144 slices of pizza)

For each Joe:

Big numbers are great but what Santander managed per person is worth celebrating – loudly

  • 3.7 hours per week of exercise (WHO recommends 2.5 hours minimum)
  • 44.72 km travelled
  • 8,726 calories burnt

Impact:

Long term, life changing habits is what GoJoe is all about. And we think the Santander team are well on their way:

  • Smashing targets: On average the team exceeded NHS exercise guidelines of 2.5 hours per week by 50% during the challenge
  • Getting the inactive, active: Everyone exercised more than usual for the challenge, but we know the impact on those who find it harder to get and about is greater. Those who previously exercised…
    • 0-2 times a month jumped to 14 times a month
    • 3-5 times a month leapt to 22 times
    • 6-8 times catapulted to 30 times
    • And 8+ a month a smashed out 36 sessions

Life changing habits?:

73% of Stepping into Summer with Operations users have carried on using the GoJoe app regularly after the challenge ended to track activity and move more. Creating potentially long term and life changing habits. You love to see it.
