Investing in movement: How Coutts Bank turned GoJoe Rewards into health and performance boosts

Working closely with GoJoe successfully enhanced employee engagement, promoted longer term active lifestyles changes and contributed to more connection in workplace, essential in today’s hybrid working environment.

The challenge

Coutts Bank and GoJoe came to together to test a theory: That extrinsic rewards offered for healthy habits, twinned with GoJoe’s gamified social platform, helps get more people more active more often.

And on top of this, to see if this engagement and health boost would have a genuine impact on the productivity and performance of the bank and its people.

To fully test it, we benchmarked the data against the same business area who took part in the wider, award-winning NatWest Group Go! Campaign on GoJoe in 2024.

The solution

So the theory was set. And GoJoe’s premium platform was rolled out across the team in early 2025 and backed by a multi-channel marketing strategy to hook users in.

Core messaging centred on the key benefit features Coutts colleagues received by signing up:

  • Earning up to £10 of reward vouchers each month to spend on dozens of big brands like Amazon and Starbucks
  • Competing with and against colleagues in virtual team challenge
  • Enrolling in GoJoe’s health score assessment and getting a free health plan from our in-house PT
  • Accessing free, in-app subscriptions to the likes of Les Mills and House of Wellbeing

The objectives

Through move-to-earn rewards, the campaign aimed to:

  • Foster a supportive and health-conscious work culture to improve physical and mental wellbeing
  • Enhance team connection across the wealth business
  • Promote holistic wellbeing and resources

So could GoJoe’s platform, coupled with investment in the ‘move to earn’ rewards, drive a material change in health, behaviour and performance?

The results

Spoiler alert; every metric measured saw sizeable uplifts. The campaign raised the bar in the key areas of health, long-term habit building, and a genuine impact on the day-to-day productivity of the team.

Does rewards on GoJoe get more people more active more often? Absolutely. And here’s our data to prove it over the two-month campaign:

Engagement:
  • 43% increase in sign ups
  • Double the number of weekly engaged users
Rewards:
  • 95% of users earned rewards from logged exercise
  • 53% redeemed a voucher during the campaign (others still waiting to treat themselves)
Healthy Habits (per user):
  • 15% increase in logged activities
  • 25% increase in average length of those sessions
  • 17% more calories burnt per session
  • 23% more distance covered
Health impact:
  • 40% drop in users feeling stressed/overwhelmed at work
  • 27% of users reported an improvement in sleep consistency
  • 36% of users saw an increase in their energy levels
Productivity impact:
  • 74% felt better able to balance health and work responsibilities
  • 67% feel better equipped to manage health issues and remain productive
  • 18% increase in feeling really productive at work
