Moving together: How Epassi used GoJoe to unite two teams and drive lasting behaviour change

The Challenge

When Epassi UK acquired Zest, they faced a challenge familiar to any business going through a merger: how do you build a unified culture when people are still finding their footing? With teams coming from different organisations and different ways of working, Epassi needed more than a one-off team-building exercise.

They needed a high engagement health benefit, one that would drive an initial spike of excitement, a shared reason to connect, and also deliver long-term value for all.

The Solution

GoJoe's workforce preventative health platform was rolled out across Epassi's workforce, kicking off with a team-based activity challenge and then followed and anchored by its move-to-earn rewards model. Rather than a standalone initiative, GoJoe operates as an always-on benefit: employees earn real spending power across 9,000+ brands in 180 countries by tracking activity across 60+ supported activities. For every £1 of monthly employer spend, employees receive £2 of value.

To launch the platform and create an immediate shared moment for the newly combined teams, Epassi kicked off with a 23-day October team challenge, "When Two Become One", built around movement, friendly competition, and shared goals. The challenge served as the activation engine. The year-round rewards model is what sustains it.

The Objectives

  • Strengthen connection and shared culture across two newly combined teams
  • Drive sustained engagement in health and wellbeing beyond an initial campaign
  • Introduce a rewards-led approach to behaviour change across the whole workforce
  • Demonstrate measurable impact on wellbeing, stress, and day-to-day productivity

The Results

Every metric measured moved in the right direction. Here’s what the data showed.

Engagement

  • 60% of employees onboarded onto the platform
  • 98% challenge engagement rate
  • 40% still active 6 months after the challenge ended

Challenge Activity & Healthy Habits

  • 2,081 activities logged across the team (37 per person)
  • 1,021 hours of exercise completed (19 per person)
  • 56% maintained a 5+ day activity streak
  • 33% sustained a 10+ day streak

Health & Wellbeing

  • 62% reported improved physical health
  • 54% reported improved mental health
  • 62% reported improved social wellbeing

Connection & Culture

  • 73% felt more connected to colleagues
  • 46% said their perception of Epassi improved as a result

In a post-acquisition environment, this level of connection is both critical and genuinely difficult to achieve. GoJoe delivered it through shared goals, team competition, and the daily habit of moving together.

What Adam Plowman, Head of Professional Services at Epassi, said

"Even though I was already very active, GoJoe added a new level of motivation through friendly competition and team banter. It created a constant 'just one more point' mindset — genuinely changing day-to-day choices, like walking instead of driving or adding a short session at the end of a gym visit. The leaderboard brought people together around a shared goal. Beyond fitness, GoJoe helped restore a healthier work-life balance, encouraged time outdoors, and sparked conversations across the office — all while making being active more fun and social."

Looking Ahead

With GoJoe embedded as a year-round benefit, Epassi is positioned to maintain the momentum the October challenge created. An already-activated workforce, an established rewards habit, and a platform built to sustain long-term engagement gives them the foundation to run future challenges with consistently high participation — and to keep building the culture of health and connection that a unified team needs.

When health is rewarded, sustained, and social — it becomes culture.
