Bupa strengthens its business partnership portfolio by teaming up with GoJoe

Bupa has partnered with GoJoe, the global health and performance platform, to help business health insurance customers get active and improve workplace health and wellbeing.

The GoJoe app empowers employees to take control of their health through a combination of gamified challenges, social motivation, real-time tracking and expert-led content.

Whether someone’s starting with a lunchtime walk or pushing through a weekend cycle, they can take part in challenges, climb leaderboards and track their progress alongside teammates, turning everyday movement into a shared experience that strengthens team connections, supports physical activity and mental wellbeing, and boosts morale and performance.

The GoJoe app also offers 350 Les Mills classes, a suite of meditation audio to help manage and relieve stress, curated bespoke health journeys, expert-led content around financial and mental wellbeing, and an optional points-based rewards system which converts logged physical activity into cash vouchers at top brands. The app also syncs with smartwatches and fitness trackers, never missing a workout and helping users to stay on track.(1)

Rising levels of workplace sickness are costing UK businesses an estimated £30 billion more each year compared to 2018, £25 billion of which is attributed to reduced productivity from employees working while unwell. On average, employees lose the equivalent of 44 days’ productivity due to presenteeism, up from 35 days in 2018, and a further 6.7 days to absence, nearly double the 3.7 days lost in 2018.(2) Contributing factors include one in four adults being physically inactive, 15 million living with long-term health conditions, and a sharp rise in musculoskeletal issues. (3)

For businesses, the cost of poor health isn’t just financial, it’s felt in reduced team morale, lost performance and stalled growth. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle through regular physical activity and a balanced diet plays a crucial role in preventing health issues from occurring, whilst supporting cognitive function which helps employees to perform better and stay in work for longer. (4)

Research suggests 93% of UK employees with good physical and mental health are productive at work, compared to just 67% of those with poorer wellbeing.(5)

Richard Norris, Commercial Director at Bupa, said: “Physical and mental health are deeply connected, and when people feel physically well, they are better equipped to perform at their best. Our early-stage partnership with GoJoe hinges on a shared belief that positive health outcomes are driven by a mix of preventative and reactive support, and reflects our ongoing commitment to helping organisations build healthier and more resilient teams.”

Will Turner, Co-Founder and CEO of GoJoe, said: “The demands on health and support in the modern workplace are changing, with employers wanting to do more to support their teams’ health while managing rising costs at the same time. The GoJoe and Bupa partnership is the first step in our ability to offer employers an innovative approach to address this via end-to-end health support – and one that promotes and empowers preventative health and delivers on health equity, improved engagement and, ultimately, better performance for all.”

By bringing together health and fitness tracking with Bupa’s comprehensive healthcare services in a connected digital experience, the partnership delivers an all-inclusive solution for businesses that seeks to prevent health issues whilst ensuring access to timely care when it’s needed.
