Founder Blog: Why GoJoe has partnered with BUPA. And why it matters

By Will Turner, CEO & Co-Founder, GoJoe

Over the past few years at GoJoe we’ve had the chance to work with some brilliant employers who genuinely want to make a difference to their teams’ health and performance. But in almost every conversation, whether with HR leaders, brokers, wellbeing leads or COOs, the same challenges kept coming up.

“We’re doing lots, but none of it talks to each other.”
“We don’t really know what’s working.”
“We have great solutions, but no one’s using them.”

I’m paraphrasing for effect. But does this sound familiar?

This, coupled with the rising costs productivity in the UK, is putting putting pressure on employers. Research from the John Lewis Partnership and Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) claims that the estimated cost of reduced productivity and absenteeism per UK employee per year for mental health and musculoskeletal conditions will hit £2,605 during 2025.

These are exactly the problems that our new partnership with Bupa is trying to solve.

In simple terms: it’s a partnership that aims to combine preventative engagement with reactive care. And all designed to support workplace health in a much more connected and effective way to make people healthier and businesses more productive.

Employees can now start their health journey through something fun and accessible, but with the reassurance that more structured support is available if and when they need it.

But this isn’t just about bundling two products together. It’s about building a joined-up experience that makes sense to real people; and to the businesses trying to support them.

A shared vision for a smarter approach to health

When we first started talking to Bupa, what stood out straight away was how aligned we were in terms of values.

We both believe that health shouldn’t be siloed. That preventative support and clinical care need to be connected. And that too many people get left behind when access to health tools is limited by role, location or cost.

For Bupa, the motivation was clear: to strengthen the proactive side of their offer and help businesses drive real change in everyday health habits. For us at GoJoe, it was about giving users a deeper pathway into structured care and support; something we know many employers want to offer but don’t always know how.

It’s a good fit, and a new approach. One that we think can really shift the needle for businesses and start addressing those health and health cost concerns.

What we’re aiming to achieve

In the short term, we’re focused on helping organisations bring all their health efforts together; from better physical, mental, and social wellbeing, to claims data and care access. We’re keeping things simple and scalable to try to offer solutions for whole populations, but with the flexibility and ambition to evolve.

And we’re looking to do this via a connected digital experience. What does that actually mean? Broadly, two things; firstly, via the solutions themselves, with Bupa linked through the GoJoe app allowing users to access their end-to-end care from one place. But also through data, as we combine GoJoe’s quantitative and qualitative health data with Bupa’s claims data to give employers a clearer picture of their workplace health.

The next phase is about working towards an even more integrated model and one that drives a greater measurable impact on health and performance. We’ll do this through AI powered data and insights, helping employers better measure and predict health as well as reduce costs. And with the ability to do this in real-time. We're building this now alongside some really exciting partners.

Who does this help?

Employers get better engagement, healthier teams, smarter insight, and a simpler user journey for their people - globally - all of which helps drive productivity, reduce absenteeism and improve ROI.

Employees get a product they actually want to use. One that's proven to motivate them to be healthier, rewards them for it, connects them to their colleagues – wherever they are - and then gives them access to real support when they need it.

Brokers and intermediaries get more ways to advise clients meaningfully;  with configurable, insight-led options that allow for dynamic commercial models, clearer touch-points and deeper insights from which to advise and drive more value.

Why this makes sense for GoJoe

This is a big strategic moment for us.

We’ve always been a product-first business; focused on building something people actually want to use and proving this time and again. But we’ve known for a while that engagement without reactive support can only go so far. With Bupa, we now have a route to build a full engagement-to-care model that stays true to our values but also reaches more people and unlocks even more impact.

It helps us scale. It helps us prove value. And it helps us deliver on our mission: to make health more human, more inclusive, and more connected.

We’re incredibly proud to be working with Bupa. And we’re just getting started.
